HAWKERS COVE

Approximate walking time : 1.5 hour

Approximate distance : 4.5 miles

You’ll love it if : You want a longer walk with different scenery

Good to know : There are no toilets or cafes here.

From Padstow Harbour, follow the coast NE until St George’s Well. Here you can take the steps or sloped path (a little further round) down to the cove below. Walk along the sand towards the mouth of the estuary as it bends round to left, this is Harbour Cove.

We recommend going at low tide to enjoy the full expanse of this big beach (check tide times), great for letting the dogs have a good off-lead run. There are lovely grassy sand dunes to hide in if the wind picks up. Walk straight out across towards the sea at low tide in the direction of the lifeboat house at Hawkers Cove. If you do go at high tide, you can climb back up the sand dunes behind and join the coast path.

You can then walk up the slipway and cut back in between the buildings, turning left back onto the coast path. Follow the path until you come to the corner of the beach, this is quite an interesting swamp area with ponds and gorgeous pampas and other tall grasses growing. Curve round and head back towards Padstow on the upper path above the sand dunes which leads you back to St George’s Well.

Join us back at 17 Duke Street for a well deserved Padstow Gin ‘Hawker’s Cove’ Rose, whose name was inspired by this pretty corner of Padstow.
